These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2324/120974. The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; Lieutenant Stradling; Major Henry Creswicke Rawlinson, Political Agent in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq]; and Lieutenant Alan Hyde Gardner, Senior Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf. It is the third in a series of six items on the Persian Gulf.

The item concerns:

• Rawlinson’s request for one or two vessels of the Persian Gulf Squadron to be dispatched to Mohumrah [Khorramshahr] to help him to support British trade at Mohumrah
• The East India Company brig Euphrates running aground near the island of Karrak [Khark Island] and the good conduct of the pilot of the Euphrates, Hajee Yacoob [Ḥājjī Ya‘qūb], as well as the aid offered by the inhabitants and the shaikh of Karrak
• A plan for the East India Company sloop of war Elphinstone’s cruise around the Gulf, including instructions for when she reaches Asseeloo [Bandar-e Asaluyeh] and Debaye [Dubai].
