This item consists of copies of correspondence, consultations, and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. The main correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Commander John Croft Hawkins, former Senior Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf.
The item concerns a complaint received by the Court of Directors of the East India Company from the Government of the Netherlands about the treatment of Sayed Abdool Rahmon [Sayyid ‘Abd al-Raḥmān], Second Mate on the Dutch brig Lorkas by Hawkins and Hennell. The item includes accounts by Hawkins and Hennell explaining that Sayed Abdool Rahmon was not being allowed to return to Batavia [Jakarta] on board the Lorkas due to his disputes with the Captain and First Mate of the vessel.
