This item consists of copies of political letters from the Government of Bombay to the Court of Directors of the East India Company, and a letter from the Court of Directors to the Government of Bombay. The enclosures to these letters are contained in the subsequent items. It is the first in a series of forty-five items on the Persian Gulf.
The item contains summaries of the enclosures to the political letters, mostly concerning:
- Alleged acts of piracy and plunder of wrecked vessels in the Gulf, and efforts to obtain redress for these
- Affairs in Muscat, including a dispute between Syed Thooene [Sayyid Thuwaynī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd], Acting Governor of Muscat, and Heskeal Yusoof [Khawājah Ḥizqīl bin Yūsuf], Acting Native Agent at Muscat
- Affairs in Bahrein [Bahrain]
- The situation in Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi]
- Hostilities between the Sheik [Shaikh] of Rasul-Khyma [Ra’s al-Khaymah] and the sheiks of Debaye [Dubai], Ejman [Ajman], and Amulgavine [Umm al-Qaywayn], and the eventual signing of a truce
- Tours of the Arabian coast of the Gulf conducted by Commodore Sir Henry Martin Blackwood and Lieutenant Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Assistant Resident in the Persian Gulf
- The activities of Saeed bin Mootluk [Sa‘d bin Muṭlaq al-Muṭayrī], the Wahabee [Wahhābī] Agent at Brymee [al-Buraymi].
