These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2174/105546. It is the thirteenth in a series of forty-five items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf; Hossein Khan, Sahib i Ikhtyar, Governor of Fars, [Muḥammad Ḥusayn Khān Muqaddam Marāgha’i, Ṣāḥib Ikhtiyār, Governor of Fars]; and Meerza Reza [Mīrzā Reżā], British Agent at Shiraz.
The item concerns the efforts to obtain redress for two ‘piracies’: the plunder of the wreck of the East India Company’s schooner Emily by certain inhabitants of the island of Kenn [Kish, also rendered as Ges in the item], and an attack on two vessels from Karrack [Jazireh-ye Khark] by the people of Khirrah [Kherreh], a dependency of the Shaik of Assaloo [Shaikh of Bandar-e ‘Asaluyeh]. It includes a summary of a communication from Mustoofa Khan of Bastuk [Ḥājjī Mustafā Khān Bastakī, Ruler of Bastak].
The item also contains the response of the Government of Bengal (f 380) to a despatch that is not included in this item.
