This item comprises enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay [Mumbai] Secret Department to the Secret Committee: Bombay Secret Letter 10 September 1822. The enclosures are dated 28 June-8 August 1822.
The item comprises:
- A letter from Captain William Bruce, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire [Bushehr], to the Chief Secretary to the Government of Bombay, enclosing a copy of the firman (ff 105-106) he has received from HRH the Prince at Shiraz summoning him to the Prince (written as if in response to a request for an audience from Bruce), and informing Bombay of his intention to proceed in order not to cause offence
- A letter from the Secretary to the Government, Bombay, to Captain Bruce, ordering him not to go to Shiraz in view of the recent break in diplomatic relations with Tehran, and stating that if he has already departed, or is now subsequently on his way to Tehran, to turn back.
