The item consists of five letters from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors. The letters refer to recent activities connected to the ‘slave trade’ [trade in enslaved people] in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, especially Judda [Juddah], Bahrein [Bahrain], Oman, and near Bassador [Basa‘idu].
The first letter is dated 21 May 1853. Enclosures can be found at IOR/F/4/2536/147462. This letter contains extracts of a letter from the Court of Directors to the Government of Bombay, dated 21 January 1852.
The second letter is dated 30 August 1853. Enclosures can be found at IOR/F/4/2536/147463.
The third letter is dated 28 September 1853. Enclosures can be found at IOR/F/4/2536/147464.
The fourth letter is dated 27 October 1853. Enclosures can be found at IOR/F/4/2536/147465.
