This item consists of copies of correspondence cited in, or enclosed with, an extract of a Foreign Letter from the Government of India to the East India Company Court of Directors, 13 May 1854. The enclosures are dated 5 July 1853-14 October 1853.
The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; the Government of India; William Taylour Thomson, HM Chargé d’Affaires at Tehran; and Mirza Fezloollah [Mīrzā Fażl Allāh], British Agent at Sheeraz [Shiraz, also rendered as Sheraz in the item].
The item concerns a report from Mirza Fezloollah regarding the losses he has sustained as a result of the recent earthquake in Sheeraz, and a request from Taylour Thomson that a sum of £400 be granted to cover these losses.
The item contains a table of contents (f 935), and the title page (f 934) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘898/54’, ‘Collection No. 31’ and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘58’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘31’.
