This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, extracts of a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, 2 November 1855. The Political Letter appears in IOR/F/4/2634/167149. The enclosures are dated 3 September-19 October 1855. It is the fifth in a series of eight items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf.
The item concerns the settlements made following two incidents involving Bahrein [Bahrain]:
- A ‘piracy’ committed by Humud bin Mujdel, the Amaieer ‘Chief’ [Shaikh Ḥamad bin Majdal al-‘Umayrī, Leader of al-‘Amāyir tribe]. Compensation was paid by the Sheikh [Shaikh] of Bahrein
- The restitution, by both parties, of boats captured during an attack on Bahrein by Mahomed bin Abdullah [Muḥammad bin ‘Abdullāh].
The item contains a table of contents (f 1208), and the title page (f 1207) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘376 -/56’, ‘Collection No. 8 of No. 116 of 1855. Vol. 5’ and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘4’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘8’. The volume number was originally given as ‘4’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘5’.
