This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, extracts of Political Letters from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors. The Political Letters are not included in this item. The enclosures are dated 25 June-19 October 1855. It is the eighth in a series of eight items on the Persian Gulf.
The main correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Resident in the Persian Gulf.
The item concerns the relinquishment by Kemball of his position as Resident in the Persian Gulf, including:
- The appointment of Commander Felix Jones, Surveyor in Mesopotamia and Officiating Political Agent in Turkish Arabia, as a temporary replacement for Kemball
- The fulfilment of the requirement for the examination of the accounts of a vacated office
- Kemball’s commendation of Lieutenant Herbert Frederick Disbrowe, Assistant Resident in the Persian, and Assistant Surgeon Andrew Fyfe for the performance of their duties while employed under him.
The item contains a table of contents (ff 1225-1226), and the title page (f 1224) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘376 -/56’, ‘Collection No. 8 of No. 116 of 1855. Vol. 8’ and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The volume number was originally given as ‘7’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘8’.
