This item consists of copies of political letters from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, dated 24 June, 3 October, and 24 December 1857. The enclosures to these letters are contained in the subsequent items. It is the first in a series of twenty-six items on the Persian Gulf.
The item contains summaries of the enclosures to the political letters, mostly concerning:
- Alleged attacks on people and property at sea, and subsequent action taken
- Various complaints made against Assistant Surgeon James McAlister, Civil Surgeon at Bushire [Bushehr]
- The effects of the recent war with Persian [Iran]
- Enquiries made regarding the allowances of Commander Felix Jones, Resident in the Persian Gulf; Lieutenant Herbert Frederick Disbrowe, Assistant Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Assistant Surgeon McAlister.
The item contains a table of contents (f 515), and the title page (f 514) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘789-/58’, ‘Collection No. 9 (In 25 Volumes) Vol: 1’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’.
