This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2710/194511. The enclosures are dated 21 October 1856-9 April 1857. It is the second in a series of twenty-six items on the Persian Gulf.

The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Commander Felix Jones, Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Sheik Zayid ben Khuleefa, Ruler of Aboothabee [Shaikh Zāyid bin Khalīfah Āl Nahyān, Ruler of Abu Dhabi].

The item concerns an alleged attack carried out by the crew of a vessel from Aboothabee, resulting in the death of a man from Katif [Qatif]. Jones demands that a sum of money be paid by the Ruler of Aboothabee in compensation to the victim’s family, and this is agreed upon by the Ruler.

The item contains multiple spellings for individuals and places.

The item contains a table of contents (f 521), and the title page (f 520) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘789-/58’, ‘Collection No. 9. Vol: 2’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘1’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘9’.
