This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, memoranda, minutes, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2710/194511. The enclosures are dated 14 August 1856-24 April 1857. It is the fourth in a series of twenty-six items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Commander Felix Jones, Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Khimjee Gopaldass [Khemjī Gopāldās], owner of the Nowree [Nauri] Cullian Pursad [Kalyān Parsād].
The item concerns a petition from Khimjee Gopaldass, requesting payment of the amount promised to him from Sheikh Sultan ben Suggur [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī] as compensation for the plunder of his vessel, Cullian Pursad. Jones explains that, owing to the present political situation, he has not yet been able to send a vessel to the Arabian coast to recover the money that is owed.
The item contains multiple spellings for certain names.
The item contains a table of contents (f 535), and the title page (f 534) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘789-/58’, ‘Collection No. 9. Vol: 4’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘4’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘9’.
