This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2710/194511. The enclosures are dated 29 March-7 May 1857. It is the sixteenth in a series of twenty-six items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Commander Felix Jones, Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Acting Commodore James Rennie, Commanding Persian Gulf Squadron.
The item concerns a request from Jones for a vessel from the Persian Gulf Squadron to be supplied to him. He also asks that a box of gold ornaments, which has been deposited as a pledge for the payment of a claim made upon Sultan bin Suggur, the Ruler of Ras ul Khymah [Shaikh Sulṭān I bin Ṣaqr al-Qāsimī, Ruler of Ra’s al-Khaymah] be transferred to the Residency in Bushire [Bushehr].
The item contains a table of contents (f 688), and the title page (f 687) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘789-/58’, ‘Collection No. 9. Vol: 16’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘12’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘9’.
