This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, dated 8 March 1858. The enclosures are dated 21 November 1857-8 March 1858. It is the first in a series of ten items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Commander Felix Jones, Political Resident, Persian Gulf.
The item concerns the recovery of a gun-boat belonging to the Government of Bombay, which was stranded on the Persian [Iranian] coast, in the territory of the Dashtee [Dashti] tribe. It includes extracts from reports by Lieutenant Thomas Carter Richardson Carpendale, commanding the Company’s vessel Clive, who was sent to recover the gun-boat.
The item contains a table of contents (f 1075), and the title page (f 1074) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘1230-/58’, ‘Collection No. 1 (In 10 Volumes) Vol: 1’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’.
