This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, dated 8 March 1858. The Political Letter appears in IOR/F/4/2728/198372. The enclosures are dated 4 December 1857-18 February 1858. It is the sixth in a series of ten items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are the Government of Bombay and Commander Felix Jones, Resident in the Persian Gulf.
The item relates to concerns about the capabilities of Hajee Jassim [Ḥājjī Jāsim] the Agent at Bahrein [Bahrain], and Moollah Ahmed [Mullā Aḥmad], the Agent at Lingah [Bandar-e Lengeh]. It is decided not to replace them for the present but to give them a further trial period.
The item contains a table of contents (f 1129), and the title page (f 1128) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘1230-/58’, ‘Collection No. 1 of No. 10 of 1858. Vol: 6’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘6’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘1’.
