This item consists of copies of correspondence, resolutions, and consultations cited in, or enclosed with, a Political Letter from the Government of Bombay to the East India Company Court of Directors, dated 8 March 1858. The Political Letter appears in IOR/F/4/2728/198372. The enclosures are dated 21 October-31 December 1857. It is the ninth in a series of ten items on the Persian Gulf.
The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Commander Felix Jones, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; and Meerza Mahomed Alee [Mīrzā Muḥammad ‘Alī], Agent at Sheeraz [Shiraz].
The item concerns intelligence from Sheeraz sent by Meerza Mahomed Alee. Topics covered include:
- The appointment of Ahmed Khan [Mīrzā Aḥmad Khān Daryābaygī Tabrīzī] as the Governor of Bushire [Bushehr]
- Celebrations following news of the proclamation of the heir apparent to the Shah of Persia [Iran]
- Disputes regarding the governorship of Lar.
The item contains a table of contents (f 1167), and the title page (f 1166) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘1230-/58’, ‘Collection No. 1 of No. 10 of 1858. Vol: 9’, and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘9’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘1’.
