A copy of a French letter from Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet, Ambassador of the French Republic to the Sublime Porte [Government of the Ottoman Empire], to Citizen Jean-François Rousseau, Consul of the French Republic in Bagdad [Baghdad], sent from Constantinople [Istanbul] and dated 10 Brumaire of Year VI of the French Revolution (31 October 1797).
The letter remonstrates with Rousseau concerning demands for money he has made from Aubert du Bayet.
This letter was found in Rousseau’s papers after his arrest in October 1798 and copied by Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad. It was enclosed in Jones’s letter to Henry Dundas, Secretary of State for War, dated 31 October 1798 (IOR/L/PS/9/76/43 and 44).
