A translated extract of a letter from a Persian [Iranian] merchant in Yezd [Yazd] to Aga Baba [Ḥajī Muḥammad ‘Alī Iṣfahānī], a Persian merchant in Bagdad [Baghdad], dated c 10 March 1799.
The letter states that, after gathering a large force in Persia, Shah Zadeh Mahmood [Mahmūd Durrānī] attempted to capture Herat but was betrayed and routed and is now missing. It also states that Shah Zadeh Mahmood’s brother and son have withdrawn to Persia.
