Two letters received by Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad [Baghdad]:
1. A letter from J A Grant, Sub-Secretary to the Government of Bombay [Mumbai], sent from Bombay Castle and dated 24 May 1799. The letter reports the capture of Seringapatam by British forces on 4 May, the death of Tippoo Sultan [Tīpū Sulṭān of Mysore] in battle, and the capture of two of his sons and other notables.
2. A letter from Samuel Manesty, Resident in Bussora [Basra], sent from Bussora and dated 31 July 1799. The letter concerns the capture of Seringapatam and forwards packets of letters addressed to Jones and the Court of Directors.
