This item contains copies of two letters:
1. A letter from Captain John Malcolm, Envoy of the Governor-General of Bengal to Persia [Iran], to Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad [Baghdad], sent from Bagdad and dated 31 March 1801. The letter states that Malcolm has been obliged to leave Bagdad for India and has entrusted some of his duties to his Head Assistant, Captain William Campbell, asking Jones to assist Campbell and settle the accounts of Malcolm’s mission with him. Malcolm also advises Jones to cultivate relations with Persian visitors to Bagdad in order to strengthen relations and obtain intelligence from Persia.
2. A letter from Harford Jones to Captain John Malcolm, sent from Bagdad and dated 31 March 1801. Jones states that he will assist Captain Campbell and settle the accounts of Malcolm’s mission with him, and also cultivate relations with Malcolm’s Persian contacts.
