This item contains copies of two letters:
1. A letter from J A Grant, Secretary to the Government of Bombay, to William Bruce, Assistant to the Resident in Bushire [Bushehr], sent from Bombay Castle [Mumbai] and dated 11 August 1802. The letter reports the death of Hajee Kheleel [Ḥājī Muḥammad Khalīl Khān Qazvīnī], Persian [Iranian] Ambassador to India, and members of his retinue in Bombay, and forwards instructions to Bruce and the Resident Meerza Mehedy Ally Khan [Mīrzā Mahdī ‘Alī Khān Bahadūr] to explain the issue to the King [Shāh] of Persia [Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār].
2. A letter from J A Grant to Harford Jones, Resident in Bagdad [Baghdad], sent from Bombay Castle and dated 12 August 1802. Grant forwards the above letter to Assistant Resident Bruce and asks Jones to represent the death of Hajee Kheleel as an accident.
