- Scope & Content:
- This item consists of copies of a General Despatch from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dated 25 November 1873 and received via Brindisi on 29 December 1873, forwarding copies of correspondence regarding the debt due to the British Government by the [Ottoman] Porte for telegraph stores. Based on an explanation of the debt received from the Political Agent in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], the Government of India requests that HM Minister for Foreign Affairs urges the Ottoman Government to liquidate it. The enclosures chiefly comprise letters and telegrams from the Political Agent in Turksh Arabia. The despatches include only the abstracts of contents; the enclosures are not present.
