This part of the volume consists of a copy of an enclosure to a despatch from the Government of Bombay [Mumbai] Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 12 of 1853, dated 24 February 1853. The enclosure is numbered 3 and is dated 16 December 1852.
The enclosure is a copy of a letter from the Political Agent in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Creswicke Rawlinson, to the Secretary to the Government of Bombay in the Political Department, forwarding under flying seal copies of two despatches addressed to HM Chargé d’Affaires at Constantinople [Istanbul]. The despatches report news from Baghdad (also written as Bagdad in the item), including: the arrival of Prince Abbas Mirza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Mulk Ārā Qājār] at Baghdad; the departure of Namik Pasha [Muḥammad Amīn Nāmiq Pāshā] from Baghdad for Constantinople, and the anticipated arrival of the new Governor of Baghdad.
