- Scope & Content:
- Folio 37. Illustration of the Tomb of Ahmad Shah from James Burgess' 'Original Drawings [of] Muhammadan Architecture of Ahmadabad.' The tomb of Sultan Ahmad Shah (r.1411-42) is situated to the east of the Jami Masjid in the city. It is a square domed structure with a central hall, built in c.1440. Four small square chambers at the corners, with four pillared halls between them, form a verandah around the central tomb. Windows of perforated stone-work allow lights into the interior. In the centre of the marble floor is the tomb of Ahmad Shah, and on either side are those of his son Muhammad Shah II (1451), and his grandson Qutb Shah (1458), all carved of white marble.
