- Title:
- Plan and section of tanks at Bander and Ammao. Artist(s): Maisey, Frederick Charles, 1825-1892.
- Scope & Content:
- Pen and ink drawing with watercolour of the plans and the sections of the tanks at Bander and Ammao in Rajasthan, by Frederick Charles Maisey, c. 1847-1854. Inscribed: 'Miscellaneous Series Plate.5' Fig. 1&2. Plan and section of a tank at Bander. Fig. 3&4. Plan and section of a tank at Ammao. In the 'Descriptive list of drawings of Captain Maisey' Maisey described Bander by stating: "Bhander or Bandher is a small town between Datya and Sampthar, about 25 miles from Jhansi. It possesses few or no remains of any antiquity, though said to have been once inhabited by a royal race. From the number of mosques and tombs here, it is evident that the Muhammadans have long been influential, which will explain the scarcity of Hindu remains…[There is]...a tank called “Ghar ke Tal”; in its dry bed is a small cistern of masonry reached by steps; it is called a Baoli and, though apparently quite modern, is of course attributed to the era of Yuvanadeva (vide Plate 5 figs 1.2)". Maisey then described Ammao by saying: "This is a village between Saleya and Alampur, to which I sent my tents in consequence of having heard that a Temple and Baoli where to be seen there, which were attributed to Malkhan. The Baoli is modern with the exception of a few feet just above the water line: having nothing else to do I made a plan and section of it, which will serve to show the style of these useful works (vide Plate 5. figs. 3.4)".
