The temple of Bungadyo in Bungamati. This large sikhara style temple, in the centre of the town square of Bungamati, houses the shrine of Bungadyo, also recognized as Rato Macchendranath, Avalokitesvara, Karunamaya or Bungamati Lokesvara. Bungadyo, the God of Rain, is worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus regard him as an incarnation of Shiva while Buddhists regard him as an incarnation of Avalokitesvara. The shrine resides inside the temple for six months of the year and spends the rest of his time in Patan. The process of moving him back and forth between Patan and Bungamati is one of the most important annual festivals in the Valley.
