- Scope & Content:
-
This part of the volume consists of a copy of an enclosure to a despatch from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 122 of 1842, dated 29 October 1842.
The enclosure, numbered 1 and dated 22 September 1842, consists of a letter from the Secretary to the Bombay Medical Board, James Burnes, to the Secretary to the Government of Bombay, Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Melvill Melvill. The letter encloses an extract of a letter to the Secretary to the Medical Board from J C Floyd, surgeon, formerly in medical charge of the Euphrates Expedition, requesting from the Medical Board ‘some acknowledgement’ of the manner in which he has performed his duties. The letter from Burnes states that he is directed by the Medical board to ‘testify to the constant disposition manifested by Mr. Floyd to consult the good of the Service in all his arrangements, and the zeal and professional ability with which he has at all times performed his duties’ (folio 4).
