The map sheet is one of two maps annexed to a report included in IOR/L/MIL/17/5/3303. The other map sheet can be found at IOR/L/MIL/17/5/3303, f 380.
The map shows the Basra and Magil [Al Ma‘qil] areas in Mesopotamia. It indicates:
- Hydrology
- Settlements and place names
- Buildings, including named public buildings and military installations
- Existing port areas
- Areas proposed for port activities
- Current and proposed railway routes
- Road routes.
The map bears the printing statements: ‘Reproduced by Basrah Survey Party, I.E.F. “D” No. 91, Dated 12.6.17’ and ‘Heliozincographed at the Survey of India Offices, Calcutta’. It also bears the imprint: ‘Reg. No. 1666. E 18’. ‘I.E.F.’ stands for ‘Indian Expeditionary Force’.
The map has been signed by: Major Manley, Officiating Deputy Director of Railways, on 18 February 1918; and Colonel Richard Oakes, Acting Director of Railways, on 20 February 1918.
