This part of the volume consists of a copy of an enclosure to a despatch from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 48 of 1840, dated 22 July 1840.
The enclosures consists of a letter from the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Captain Samuel Hennell, to the Chief Secretary to the Government of Bombay, Lestock Robert Reid, dated 11 June 1840. Hennell acknowledges receipt of a letter from the Government of Bombay with enclosures relating to the treaty recently concluded between the British Government and the Imam of Muscat [Sayyid Sa‘īd bin Sulṭān Āl Bū Sa‘īd], and he proposes to deliver the ratification of the treaty by Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland to the Imam of Muscat in person, around the middle of July 1840, upon the return of his Acting Assistant from Bagdad [Baghdad].
