This part of the volume consists of copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 51 of 1840, dated 23 July 1840. The enclosures are numbered 3-11 and are dated 29 April to 23 July 1840.

The enclosures mostly consist of correspondence relating to Persian Gulf affairs. The enclosures concern matters including:

• The question of the expediency of erecting certain works for the improvement of the Island of Karrack [Kharg Island], and the opinion of the Government of Bombay that as it is uncertain how long the British Government will continue to be in possession of Karrack, no expense should be sanctioned for these works
• The opinion of the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Captain Samuel Hennell, on the expediency and practicability of British troops occupying a position on the Island of Bahrein [Bahrain] or any other place in the Persian Gulf, in the event of circumstances leading to the evacuation of Karrack
• The reinforcement of the Squadron in the Persian Gulf.
