This part of the volume consists of copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 53 of 1840, dated 23 July 1840.
The enclosure consists of a letter from the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Captain Samuel Hennell, to the Chief Secretary to the Government of Bombay, dated 29 May 1840, forwarding an enclosed letter to Hennell from Commodore George Barnes Brucks, commanding the Indian Naval Squadron in the Persian Gulf, of the same date, regarding the number of vessels of war which would be required for a blockade of the ports of Kateef [Al Qatif], Sohat [Sayhat] and Ajeer [Al-ʻUqayr, Saudi Arabia].
