Annual administration report of the Aden Settlement, providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Administration of Aden during the financial year 1877-78. The report is addressed, in a covering memorandum, by Brigadier-General Francis Loch, Political Resident, Aden, to the Chief Secretary to the Government, Bombay, 14 May 1878. The Rrport was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai].

The main body of the report is headed ‘PART II’. The first part is not present. Part II of the report is divided into the following sections, some of which are further divided into sub-headings:

• ‘VI. – VITAL STATISTICS AND MEDICAL RELIEF’ (ff 155-156), consisting of: (b) Births and Deaths; (d) Medical Relief; (f) Vaccination
• ‘VII. – INSTRUCTION’ (ff 156-157), consisting of: (a) Education
• ‘IX. – MISCELLANEOUS’ (f 157), consisting of: (a) Ecclesiastical; (c) General Miscellaneous.

The report includes one appendix relating to political relations (with the ‘native states’ and ‘native chiefs’) authored by F M Hunter, Assistant Political Resident, Aden.

On folio 140 there is a letter dated 1 May 1878, from G W R Hay, Surgeon, Senior Medical Officer, Indian Medical Department, Aden, to the Assistant Resident, Aden, explaining why he has been unable to furnish the usual information for the Annual Administration Report.

A table of contents listing the Chapter numbers and headings of Part II is on folio 142 (‘chapter’ is not used in the main body of the report). This is followed by a name, place and subject index on folios 143-145.
