This part of the volume consists of copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay’s Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 13 of 1854, dated 14 February 1854. The enclosures are numbered 3-9 and are dated 6 January-13 February 1854.
The papers relate to affairs in Persia [Iran] and Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], and notably discuss the detention of East India Company steam frigate Auckland.
The main correspondents are: HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia (William Taylour Thomson); HM Consul at Baghdad [also written as Bagdad in this item] and Political Agent in Turkish Arabia (Henry Creswicke Rawlinson); Resident in the Persian Gulf (Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball).
