The map sheet is one of seven maps included in IOR/L/PS/20/C126/1. It depicts the empire of Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, at its greatest territorial extent, extending from Macedonia in the west to modern-day Afghanistan and India in the east. The territory of Alexander’s empire is coloured in beige, with states federated to the empire shown in yellow, and independent states shown in green. The route that Alexander took across the area is shown with a bold line, and the routes of two of his key officers are also shown (Nearchus’ route is shown with a dotted line, while Craterus’ route is shown with a dashed line).
