An index map displaying the routes described in Volume I of a series of publications on ‘Routes in Persia’ [Iran] produced by the Division of the Chief of Staff, Army Headquarters India.
The map covers routes in northeast and central Persia, spanning an area between the Caspian Sea, Yazd, Kirman [Kerman], Birjand, and the borders of Afghanistan and Russian Turkestan.
The routes described in the volume, numbered 1 to 152, are indicated in red, with line patterns indicating different road surfaces. Black lines indicate hydrology, telegraphs, and some routes not described in the volume. Red letters and numbers indicate corresponding Survey of India maps.
The map is marked ‘I[intelligence]. B[ranch]. Topo[graphical]. Dy. No. 8514. Ex[ecute]d. C.J.A.’ [the cartographer’s initials], and is dated May 1910.
