A photograph of the ‘Mission-camp Ferryman’ named Charon [Chārūn]. Photographed holding an oar, he is standing on top of his ferry on a body of water. The ferry appears to be made out of straw. ‘Engraved and printed at the Offices of the Survey of India, Calcutta [Kolkata] 1910.’ is printed underneath.
The photograph was taken during the Seistan [Sistan] Boundary Commission that took place between 1903 and 1905, and the print is published in a book titled ‘Seistan. A Memoir on the History, Topography, Ruins and People of the Country. In four parts. Parts I to III’. The photographer is unknown.
