Map showing established and proposed air routes over the Persian Gulf. A table of reference indicates an established route as far as Basra, followed by two possible routes to Karachi and beyond.
The first route, noted as ‘occasionally flown over’ follows the Persian and Makran coasts, while the second, noted as ‘proposed’ and ‘not yet flown over’ descends along the Arabian coast before crossing the Gulf from Muscat to Gwadar.
Also indicated are established aerodromes, as well as proposed refuelling and emergency landing grounds. In addition, the map indicates international boundaries, including that between Kuwait and Nejd [Najd].
The map was printed at the War Office in October 1928. It includes the following printing statement: ‘Geographical Section, General Staff, No. 3869.’
