Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 19 of 1870, dated 15 March 1870, containing enclosures dated 18-23 February 1870.
The enclosures consist of copies of correspondence relating to a possible attack on Muscat by the Wahabee [Wahhābī] Ameer Abdullah ben Fysul [‘Abdullāh bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd, Emir of Najd], and potential support for the attack from the rulers of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], Amulgawine [Umm al-Qaywayn] and Debai [Dubai].
The correspondence also covers considerations over whether the British Government should officially recognise Syud Azan bin Ghes [Sayyid ‘Azzān bin Qays Āl Bū Sa‘īd] as Sultan of Muscat.
The item includes a sketch map of the Arabian coast between Gwuttur [Qatar] and Muscat, which is catalogued as IOR/L/PS/5/264, f 461.
