Construction of the 60-inch building, seen from the north-west. The walls and roof trusses of the turret are in place. An American flag flies from a pole on the roof. Several other people can be seen. The foreground shows a busy construction site. On the left, the telescope tube, in a wooden plank enclosure, can be seen, next to a temporary corrugated sheeting structure. In the centre of the image is the cradle of the telescope. Next to it is a large machine, with metal wheels, being attended by a person. Two "Shell" containers stand at the person's feet. At far right is a shipping crate, marked "CASE 1903".
