Photograph of Lady Louisa Belle Cox Visiting the Hangars of the Persian Gulf Fighter Fund Spitfires
- Scope & Content:
-
Photograph of Lady Louisa Belle Cox (widow of Sir Percy Cox) visiting the aircraft hangars where the spitfires purchased by the Persian Gulf fighter fund were being stored and tested. The photograph shows a group of five people walking across the entrance of an aircraft hangar. In the background are three men standing in front of sandbags. The photographer is unknown.
Correspondence located elsewhere in the volume (IOR/L/PS/12/4498, f 316) suggests the photograph was taken on the occasion of a naming ceremony for three new spitfires that were being supplied to the Gulf, which was held at Eastleigh airport on 17 July 1941.
