- This item comprises copies of a despatch and enclosures from the Government of India, Foreign Department, to the Duke of Argyll, HM Secretary of State for India, Number 8 of 1873, dated 17 January 1873. The enclosures are dated from 3 November to 20 December 1872 and concern a claim for compensation from the Government of Persia [Iran] made by the merchant Hajee Moosa Meymenee [Ḥājī Mūsá Maymanī]. The claim was made for the enforced sale of wheat to the inhabitants of Bushire [Bushehr] during the famine of 1870. The papers consist of correspondence over the matter between the Assistant to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf and the Persian Foreign Office Agent, both in Bushire, and the eventual report that the claim had been settled.
