This item comprises copies of a despatch and enclosures from the Government of India, Foreign Department, to the Duke of Argyll, HM Secretary of State for India, Number 20 of 1873, dated 24 March 1873. The enclosures are dated from 13 August to 26 October 1872, consist of printed letters, and concern judicial matters in Persia [Iran]. Correspondence comes from the following: the Government of Bombay; the Government of India, Foreign Department; the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; and the Government of Persia.
The correspondence discusses consular jurisdiction in Persia and the Persian Gulf, and the proposal to set up a tribunal in Persia for cases involving British subjects as plaintiff and Persian defendants.
