- This item comprises copies of a despatch and enclosures from the Government of India, Foreign Department, to the Duke of Argyll, HM Secretary of State for India, Number 29 of 1873, dated 14 March 1873. The enclosures are dated from 25 January to 18 February 1873, consist of printed copies of correspondence, and concern affairs in the Persian Gulf. Correspondence comes from the Government of Bombay and Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Charles Ross, Acting Political Resident in the Persian Gulf. The correspondence comprises a rejection of Ottoman Turkish allegations of British acts of sovereignty in Bahrein, including a discussion of possible explanations for why the allegations were made.
