This item is a collection of Bombay Political Despatch No. 13 of 19 March 1867, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of Bombay Political Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay’s Political Despatch No. 102 of 28 December 1867 to the Secretary of State for India, received 20 January 1868. It covers affairs in Muscat and in the Persian Gulf, including the following: the treaty rights of British subjects to purchase household property in Persian territory; resolutions regarding changes to the responsibilities of the Acting Political Agent in Muscat and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; relations between the British Government and various tribes along the coasts of the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf; and conflict in Muscat. The collection was compiled for information purposes for the Secretary of State for India to compose the answering Political Despatch.
The enclosed papers consist of copies of correspondence and Government of Bombay resolutions. The main correspondents are the following: the Government of Bombay; the Government of India; the Acting Political Agent in Muscat; and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.
