This item comprises copies of a despatch and enclosures from the Government of India, Foreign Department, to the Duke of Argyll, HM Secretary of State for India, Number 64 of 1873, dated 10 April 1873. The enclosures are dated from 24 October 1872 to 8 March 1873, consist of printed correspondence, and concern affairs in Persia [Iran]. Correspondence comes from HM Chargé d'Affaires in Teheran [Tehran] and Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Charles Ross, Acting Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.
The correspondence concerns a claim for British protection, and its associated trading privileges, by Messrs Malcolm of Bushire [Bushehr].
Included is a manuscript India Office minute, dated 7 May 1873, stating that the papers will be kept only as a record (folio 582).
