- Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 119 of 1869, dated 19 April 1869, with an enclosure numbered 2, dated 16 February 1869.
The enclosure consists of a communication by Sir Charles Alison, HM Minister in Persia [Iran], to the Viceroy of India, relating to the claims of Persia and Muscat to sovereignty of the islet of Angaum [Hengam]. In his communication, Alison suggests it is pointless soliciting the Persian Government’s views as it clearly considers Angaum a dependency of Bunder Abbass [Bandar-e ‘Abbas]. He suggests instead that the the ‘real opinion’ of the Muscat Government should be ascertained. In its Despatch the Government of India proposes not to act on Alison’s latter suggestion at the present time.
The Political Despatch was received in the India Office Secret Department on 24 May 1869.
