This item is a collection to Bombay Political Despatch No. 42 of 25 April 1859, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of Bombay Political Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay’s Political Despatch No. 34 of 4 November 1859 to the Secretary of State for India. It comprises correspondence relating to a celebratory address in Gujarati to Queen Victoria, Ruler of the British Empire, following the news of the establishment of her authority throughout the whole of India [South Asia], from British subjects residing in Oman, described as merchants originally from Cutch [Kutch], Halar [north-western Saurashtra, Gujarat], and Sind [Sindh]. The address additionally reports the reaction of the Imam of Muscat (also written as Muskat in this item).

The address was forwarded by the Commander of the Persian Gulf Squadron, Muscat, to the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy, and is included in correspondence with the Secretary of State for India, London, by the Governor of Bombay.
