- This part of the volume consists of a copy of an enclosure to a despatch from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the Secret Committee, Number 38 of 1858, dated 8 April 1858. The enclosure is numbered 3 and is dated 18 February 1858.
The papers relate to affairs in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], covering:
- The report by the Political Agent in Turkish Arabia, on his journey by desert route through Mesopotamia to examine the country in connection with the proposed construction of electrical telegraph lines
- The gathering of information regarding relations between the Bedouin tribes Shammer [Shammar] and Anezeh [‘Anizah]
- The journey of Omer Pasha [‘Umar Luṭfī Pāshā], Governor of Bagdad [Baghdad] from Aleppo to Bagdad, and events occurring there, including conflict with a tribe who refused to provision the camp.
