- This item comprises copies of a political despatch and enclosures from the Government of India, Foreign Department, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 68 of 1872, dated 12 April 1872. The enclosures are dated 5 October 1871 to 19 March 1872 and concern affairs in the Persian Gulf, including:
- Weather conditions in Bushire [Bushehr] and hopes for the upcoming harvest
- Movement of ships in the Gulf
- Fluctuations in the prices of staple goods
- The employment of the poor in road-building and street cleaning in and around Bushire
- An embargo on the export of wheat imposed at Bahrein [Bahrain] by its Ruler
- Reports of a disturbance at Beraymee [Al Buraymi] between the Al Naeem [al-Na‘īm] tribe and those loyal to the Ruler of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi].
The principal correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; and the Native Agent at Shargah [Sharjah].
