The item comprises enclosures to a despatch, Number 126 of 1839, dated 23 November 1839, from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the East India Company Secret Committee related to affairs in Sinde [Sindh]. It also contains a translation of a journal submitted by Major Neil Campbell, Acting Quarter Master General of the Army Camp at Cabool [Kabul] in 1839. The journal describes a journey undertaken in 1826 by a French officer showing the route from Yezd [Yazd] to Herat and from Herat to Cabool via Candahar [Kandahar], with a survey of the line of country passed through. The French officer undertook the journey at the request of the Russian Governor of Georgia (folios 459-506).
